The Tucson Institute of Professional Educators is pleased to be involved with the launching of the Tucson Journalism Teachers’ Center. One of the Institute’s objectives is to encourage and facilitate, such as the sharing of good practice or bringing high quality materials and resources to the attention of colleagues. We have uncovered a general desire amongst Tucson teachers for professional development opportunities, coupled with a concern at the costs and time required to pursue further education such as that offered through university programs.

The Institute already offers a number of workshops of particular interest to Journalism / Publications teachers and Newspaper / Yearbook / Literary Magazine advisors. One of the feedback items we have received is a desire for something more ongoing and continuous and, as a result, we are excited to be involved with the Tucson Journalism Teachers’ Center. The center provides :

• a regular meeting place for Journalism / Publications teachers and Newspaper / Yearbook / Literary Magazine advisors, both programmed and non-programmed events
• seminars and workshops on topics of special interest to Journalism / Publications teachers and Newspaper / Yearbook / Literary Magazine advisors
• resources and materials specific to the needs of Journalism / Publications teachers and Newspaper / Yearbook / Literary Magazine advisors in Tucson, Arizona
