The Tucson Institute of Professional Educators is pleased to be involved with the launching of the Tucson French Teachers’ Center. One of the Institute’s objectives is to encourage and facilitate, such as the sharing of good practice or bringing high quality materials and resources to the attention of colleagues. We have uncovered a general desire amongst Tucson teachers for professional development opportunities, coupled with a concern at the costs and time required to pursue further education such as that offered through university programs.

The Institute plans soon to offer workshops of particular interest to French teachers. One of the feedback items we have received is a desire for something more ongoing and continuous and, as a result, we are excited to be involved with the Tucson French Teachers’ Center. The Center will provide :

• a regular meeting place for French teachers, both programmed and non-programmed events
• regular round table discussions, generally on matters relating directly to classroom practice
• seminars and workshops on topics of special interest to French teachers
• resources and materials specific to the needs of French teachers in Tucson, Arizona
